About the author
Robert Bartholomew holds a PhD in medical sociology from James Cook University. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the department of Psychological Medicine at The University of Auckland. He is currently teaching History at Botany College in Auckland, New Zealand.
I am looking for people who have any stories of this period and would like to share. This may include the recollection of stories from parents or grandparents who are willing to be interviewed, share photos, and archival documents for a second book. Speaking on the History of Māori racial segregation including a discussion on the infamous Papakura bar incident of 1959 involving Henry Rongomau Bennett – New Zealand’s 1st Māori Psychiatrist, who was refused a drink at the Papakura Hotel on the basis of his ethnicity.
